The Brain (and the Red Pen) Behind the Pages

Hi! I'm Lauren. I’m a lifelong book lover with a sharp eye for detail and a wardrobe that consists almost entirely of black. I’d like to say it’s for the aesthetic, but mostly it just makes laundry easier and ensures I’m always ready for a very moody poetry reading.

The Neurospicy Superpower

For me, spotting a typo in a published book isn't just a habit, it's a physical sensation. It's like finding a pebble in a sandwich; it's jarring, it's wrong, and I simply cannot ignore it until it's fixed. This isn't just attention to detail, it's a way of being. As an AuDHD human, my brain is basically hard-wired for meticulousness. My neurospicy traits give me a natural hyperfocus and a flair for pattern recognition that makes me a dream for your manuscript. For me, perfectionism isn't a buzzword; it's ingrained in my DNA.

The Resident Bookworm
I'm not just here to hunt down stray commas, though. I'm a genuine fan of the craft. My own bookshelves are a beautiful, chaotic mix of swoony romance, brain-bending sci-fi, twisty thrillers, and haunting literary fiction. I'm also currently working on my own book so I know exactly how it feels to hand over your "baby" to an editor. I get your world because I live in it every day.

Off the Clock
When I'm not wrist-deep in a manuscript, you’ll find me living my best introverted life in the beautiful Adelaide Hills. If I’m not working, I’m reading. If I’m not reading, I’m either at brunch or watching the NHL, specifically the San Jose Sharks (yes, even in Australia, and yes, it’s a difficult life choice). If I’m not yelling at the TV about Celebrini’s latest play, I’m likely recovering from human interaction with a plate of tacos and a very strong margarita.

The Mascot
I don't work alone, either. My office is strictly supervised by Honey, my dog and official office mascot. Technically, she’s my backup proofreader, though her editing style mostly involves aggressive napping and nudging my elbow when she decides I’ve been staring at the screen for too long.

At the end of the day, I want your readers to stay immersed in your story, not distracted by a misplaced semicolon or a main character whose eyes change colour.

I am here to make sure your hard work shines at its absolute brightest.

Part of Honey's role at Vivid is performing quality control by sniffing all books that enter the office, before they go up on the shelves.
